The Girl in the Web

‘Now’ is an indication of time, like ‘back then’ and ‘later’. It’s part of a continuum of past, present and future, designed for life on Earth. But since time is essentially an illusion, one cannot be ‘in the now’. Freedom can only be found outside space/time reality, one with consciousness. There, déjà vu’s are commonplace.

Iris, an eighteen-year-old Dutch girl with Native-American blood, goes into a deep trance when she has to fight for her survival in a snow cave. She leaves her body and meets a shaman, a wolf and Bokke, the little man. Iris learns the language of the Lakota-indians, experiences the hardships of her ancestors and discovers how her great-grandfather, an Oglala Lakota, died in the Second World War. Gradually, it becomes clear that her life is predestined. Her out-of-body experiences show her the way for the rest of her life.

Cajú

When Anna Bloem, a young woman from Amsterdam, discovers she has a half-brother living in Brazil, she immediately departs on a quest. Her search leads her to the dunes of Ceará, where she loses her heart to Orois, and comes under the influence of a she-male shaman and medium, Marcela. Anna gets entangled in the dark world of the Candomblé cult, and her spiritual convictions begin to crumble. When her father’s illness calls her back to Amsterdam, her relationship with Orois is severely tested. Upon returning to Brazil, she finds the world she had known has disintegrated. Anna must risk her life, and use all her strength of will to undo the evil that has worked against them and shrouded her love for Orois.

Cajú is a gripping, spiritual novel, in which Jaap Cové shows how a strong love—crossing borders beyond life itself—can conquer the evil enchantments of a powerful and dangerous sorcerer.

This is the second Cové book I have read, and I find his voice as unique as his mind is inventive. Cajú is a thrilling adventure.

Walking Among us

Dillen Lomans can’t live without rhythm. When he’s stressed he drums paradiddles on his thighs until he’s able to think straight again. When he wants to gain insights, he drums his head clear to make space for them. He drums himself ‘into the zone’—a skipping of dimensions in which anything is possible.

With his Dutch band, Manic Mola, Dillen tries his luck in America. On the eve of their first U.S. album release, their lead singer, Freek, dies in a mysterious accident. Devastated, Dillen tries to discover what happened to his best friend. His investigation leads to Ralph Miller, a Yurok Indian who uses sweat lodges to open his mind to The Great Spirits that manifest when the world is out of balance. Ralph believes he knows which god of Nature is responsible for Freek’s death. The proof lies in the Oregon woods, in the same spot where Dillen had a terrifying experience the night of the accident. Dillen is driven farther away from common-sense solutions as he peels back the layers covering the truth that awaits deep in the wilderness.

What if there are no mysteries and What if All the Myth’s are true…This Author helps unlocked those fixed beliefs in a most engaging, delightful and suspenseful way…

This novel runs at a gallop from a scary opening to a thrilling climax that involves the supernatural. The author doesn’t set out to prove the existence of Sasquatch, but he certainly makes the reader wonder as his plot converges on the dark woods of the Pacific Northwest where gangsters, police, and Bigfoot believers corner the hapless hero, drummer Dillen Lomans.

A captivating story that can only be written by an author who as his roots in the music industry and with an interest of the Native American Culture.
